  * Does it clock a point
  * Can you download
  * What is the voltage on the touch port
  * Does the clock run when it is communicating with the baton after a download?

If no faults are found the problem is probably elsewhere and it would be a waste of time to open the baton. However it might be an [[tech:baton:intermittent|Intermittent fault]] and those tests could be carried out depending on the fault reported.
