Root for Baton repair wizard

There are two different types of tests to do, Those with the baton closed and ones with the baton open. First do the closed baton tests, then if this fails open the baton and do the extra tests.

Do the tests below, with each test are links to follow if your results fail. If the results pass move on to the next test. Batons can have more than one fault. After repairing a fault you should follow all test again to make sure the baton is ok.

Closed baton tests

Do the tests in this sequence, once somthing is corrected start the tests from the begining.

  1. What is the voltage on the touch port. This is measured by putting the positive of the voltmeter on the brass insert and placing the negative of the voltmeter on the casing.
    1. If the voltage is less than 0.5v do some Dead baton checks
    2. If the voltage is less than 3.2v(you can sometime ignore this if the battery is above 2.8v) Replace the battery
    3. Test passes if the voltage is above 3.2v
  2. Does it Communicate with the computer on the download station? It is considered communicating if the computer stops indicating that it is looking for a baton after a baton is placed on the upload station.
    1. If not check that another baton communicates with PC to ensure the fault is not with the PC
    2. You might need to send the unit in to get its firmware upgraded if it still will not comunicate.
  3. Does it clock a point? A correct clock means that the light at the back flashes once when a working point is clocked.
    1. If not and it has passed everything else, you need to repair the LED
  4. Is the reported fault, corrupt data or incorrect date/time? look at data faults
