If the Baton does not communicate the most common cause is that the SIM card is not working anymore.
Before replacing the SIM card please ensure the unit has been place on a charger overnight so that it is fully charged. Wait for no lights to be flashing before opening the unit.
The baton has been designed to be replaced once opened. However if you do not have access to a new casing you can open the baton carefully and temporarily use the same baton casing when finished. Gently use a plumbing pliers to squeeze the baton near the front where it is attached and break the glue by gently squeezing and turning.
Remove the board carefully, take note of the orientation the board is in and try not to snag any cables.
Remove the glue from the SIM card. Do not lift the SIM card off the board as the holder will be damaged. Once the glue has been removed the SIM card by sliding it out. A new SIM card can be pushed in place of the old one.
Place the board back in a casing. Ensure the board slides along the rails made for it. The LED at the back should be facing the keying.
Some SIM providers Like Vodacom in South Africa do not need the APN set. Other usually do. This will be done by sending a specially crafted SMS to the device and waking it up. magcell_sms.pdf
Send the unit a message via sms formatted as follows. After sending the SMS wake the unit up by clocking a point. “Magcell” is case sensitive

Login to the server, go to Signals report and use the serial number to see any signals sent by the device. You can also go to your profile and refresh the page to see if the unit is communicating with the server.
We provide a special sealer for the batons, however super glue can be used in a pinch. If you are reusing the casing temporarily tape will also work. We have found that Self Amalgamating rubber tape will still keep the baton sealed.
